  • Dr Liz Russell – Consultant Psychiatrist

All of us, at some stage in our lives, suffer from emotional problems and their consequences. I offer an empathic approach and aim to make it possible to feel better about problems. I hope to reduce anxiety, resolve low mood, improve confidence and self-belief as well as minimise the risk of a recurrence.

I undertake a full initial assessment to establish the nature of the problem and to arrive at a diagnosis. I hope to help you to understand your problems and put together a treatment plan.

I prescribe medication as need be but have a holistic approach to alleviate distress. I have incorporated counseling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy into my work for many years. I have also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR).

I qualified in 1983 from Guy's Hospital Medical School and undertook postgraduate training in Psychiatry and General Practice. I then worked for just over 20 years as a part time General Practitioner while bringing up my family. I returned to practice psychiatry in 2009 initially to inpatient work but then working in a community mental health team.
